What better way to engage with all of our senses than spending a day in Brigit's Garden, exploring woodlands, wildflower meadows and Celtic Gardens enjoying their specially-designed natural play areas and shelters.

World Book Day 2022
World Book Day in Attymon NS was an exciting one. The children (and teachers!!) dressed up as characters from books. Their outfits included Mary Poppins, Mr. Stink, Nancy Drew, the witch from Room on the Broom, the girl from Sister Missing, Harry Potter, the lion from the Clever Rabbit and the Lion, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Little Miss Princess, Ariel and Where's Wally.
The children also took part in the Galway Education Centre Webinar 'A Galway Fairytale' with Catriona Sweeney. They enjoyed reading the story and learning how to draw the illustrations of the characters. Watch them busy in action!

Pancake Tuesday
Learning with iPad's in Attymon NS
We were very excited to receive a delivery of iPad's to the school. Each child now has an iPad to enhance their learning. All iPad's are pre-installed with the Jolly Phonics Pro Literacy App, an effective and enjoyable way of helping young children to learn how to read. Other apps include Scratch Junior, Bee-Bot, Duolingo, Khan Academy Kids and many more.
Getting our Garden Ready
Today we had great fun in the spring sunshine arranging how we want our school garden to look. We can't wait to fill our new planters with lots of vegetables and watch them grow.
Basketball Fun at Attymon NS
We had fun playing in the spring sunshine with our new basketball hoop and new basketballs.
We have a Brain Buster Finalist among us!!
Congratulations to one of our excellent pupils who has been selected as a finalist for the An Post Brain Busters Competition 2022! An outstanding entry solving literacy and numeracy puzzles, earned a place in the final. The finalists name, photo and school will feature on the An Post website. We will be working hard over the next couple of weeks, preparing for the final.

St. Brigid's Day
The children had a busy St. Brigid's Day making Brigid's Crosses and creating Brigid's cloak with lots of different materials!
Grandparents Day
To celebrate Catholic Schools Week the children took part in a prayer service for Grandparents Day. They chatted about the questionnaires they had filled out with their grandparents and read the excellent advice given to them. Their grandparents reminded them about kindness, honesty and how we are all equal.

Music Day
This January, we had a Music Day. The children and staff brought in their instruments including a viola, cello, ukelele, horn, recorder, keyboard and concertina! They played tunes and songs and watched the winter music show 'Tracks in the Snow'.

We are so happy to be back at school after our Christmas holidays. We followed the recipe in the first class Starlight book and made Gingerbread Christmas Cookies. We ate them to celebrate Olivia's birthday!

We Begin Our Christmas Preparations
Our Trip to Galway
All the children and staff in Attymon NS went on a fun day trip to Galway. Firstly, we went to a Babaro- 'Ta-Da!' an Art Exhibition in the Galway Arts Centre. The exhibition had several themed spaces, focused around: play; people; place; and pondering. The children were inspired to play, think and share.
After that we went to Milano's for some yummy food- dough balls, pizza, ice-cream and more!
To end the day, we went to Galway Atlantaquaria- Ireland’s largest native species aquarium. The children enjoyed learning about native sharks, rays, and crustaceans, as well as other unique species.

Mental Health Week Ireland
For Mental Health Awareness Week Ireland, the children are learning about mental health and wellbeing. They even baked some vanilla cupcakes and topped them with the green mental health icon to raise awareness.
Our New Mud Kitchen
Attymon NS got a special delivery of a mud kitchen! Mud Kitchens provide great outdoor learning spaces for young children where they can play and experiment with mud and water, and other natural resources. There are many educational benefits to mud kitchens such as the development of fine motor skills, social engagement, role play, exploration and much more.
Jersey Day for Galway Camogie
Children and staff in Attymon NS wore their county colours to celebrate the Galway Senior Camogie Team reaching their 3rd consecutive All-Ireland Final.
International Literacy Day 2021
The children in Attymon NS brought in their favourite book to school for International Literacy Day 2021. The children talked about their favourite book, completed book reviews, engaged in D.E.A.R time (Drop Everything and Read) and played literacy games and activities. The teachers and the older children also read books for the younger children in the school.
