Engineers Week 2022
The children had a busy Engineers Week. They made tinfoil boats, lego bridges, windmills and lots more. They enjoyed using their STEM skills to solve the different tasks.
Science Week 2021
The children had a fun-filled science week. From travelling colours to shooting rockets, they turned into super scientists! Galway Science and Technology Festival provided our school with an excellent science workshop called 'Something Sciency'. We recieved a goodie box with lots of fun things that we explored throughout the week. The children were presented with certificates at the end of the week to award their excellent participation.

Maths Week 2021
In Attymon NS we love taking part in Maths Week every year. This year we did exciting activities throughout the week including pumpkin measuring, maths quizzes, Maths TV, Maths Eyes, a maths trail and had a Halloween maths scavenger hunt. Maths Week allows children to gain familiarity with early maths concepts and provide them with opportunities to build a strong foundation for a successful future.
Discover Primary Science Awards Ceremony
The children and staff in Attymon NS joined the virtual Discover Science and Maths Awards Ceremony to celebrate the plague received for our hard work and dedication to STEM in our school. We listened to STEM professionals and science communicators and watched a live science show with the science man from Explorium.
STEM in September
The children have been busy going on Autumn walks, doing exciting experiments and collecting data this September. Have a look at the pictures below to see them busy in action!
Science Week and STEPS Engineering Week 2021
Science Week in Attymon NS was a fun one! In the Senior Room they burst bags of water with pencils (looking at polymers), they made a respiratory system using balloons and bottles, they measured how quick their reaction times were and they also looked at their heart rate and how it changed after exercise. Finally, they created a 'Pop-Up Town' Project. This STEM Project took about two weeks to complete and the children learned about sustainable energy and renewable energy sources such as solar energy.
The children in the Junior Room were also extremely busy- learning about germs and bacteria. Slices of bread were rubbed on different surfaces and the children predicted which surface would have the most bacteria. This experiment could not be more apt to recent times! Predicting and investigating were at the centre of their learning all week. STEPS Engineering Week was completed virtually. The children were provided with videos and tasks to complete throughout the week. One task was for the children to make a pinwheel to model a wind turbine and learn about wind energy. Busy at work in Mrs. Hardiman's Room
We have been busy getting ready for Science Week in Mrs. Hardiman's room. Lego is fantastic for promoting problem solving and mathematical thinking. We made this amazing motor bike by following step by step instructions. It was great fun!
